Hepscott WI

At their Christmas Party, the ladies of Hepscott W.I. were treated to a seasonal programme of songs and stories by Joan, Janet, Pat, Mary, Fiona and Pauline, collectively known as ‘The Border Tarts’.

Dressed to impress, with dazzling waistcoats and scarlet or green fascinators, the group entertained us with a range of Christmas music from 17th Century reflective carols to a hilarious song about the antics of an infant nativity.

For the retired teachers among us, old memories were evoked and tears of laughter spilled; from the nose picking shepherds to the deliberate upstaging of Mary by the diva angel who KNEW she was the star of the show in her halo, wings and glittery tights.

Audience participation featured too as we joined in rounds and blew through straws to create atmospheric sounds.

The evening ended with a delicious pooled supper and cries of Merry Christmas sounded out as we wend our way home after the last meeting of 2014.

As WIs everywhere prepare to celebrate our centenary in 2015 there are lots of events, local and national, planned so watch this space.
