AFTER hosting the town’s Lions last month, Morpeth Rotary Club played host to two other local organisations in its annual three-way quiz.

Morpeth and District Soroptimists and Morpeth Inner Wheel Club were invited to take part in the event.

Rotary chose its team randomly and Team Captain, last year’s President Jeff Reynalds, quipped that the club’s contestants were equally and democratically ignorant.

The question master was Alan Barron, of Ponteland, and the contest was a close fight right to the end, but the Soroptimists emerged victorious with 30 points, while the Inner Wheel and Rotary teams scored 28 points each.

The silver salver was accepted by the Soroptimists’ Team Captain Linda Patton, a pharmaceutical company representative, from Rotary President David Richardson.

Looking on was recently retired Vice Chancellor of Strathclyde University Andrew Hamnett. He was welcomed by the President as a new member of Morpeth Rotary.
