HUNDREDS of spectacles have been collected to help people with sight problems overseas.

Morpeth Lions Club received almost 500 pairs of specs after setting up a stall in Sanderson Arcade during its autumn street collection day.

The glasses were graded and sent to clinics in developing countries, but the work does not stop, and since then more than 100 additional pairs have been dispatched from the town.

Collections are ongoing at Boots, Stait Photography, Healthhut, CMDA, Contact Mental Health, Morpeth NHS Centre and Morpeth Library.

Organisations wishing to join the scheme should call 01670 513169.
