A PARTY has been thrown for 104-year-old Frances ‘Nellie’ Smith to mark her special birthday.

Nellie’s birthday was celebrated by staff and fellow residents at Ashington Court Care Home.

Born in Manchester in 1908, Nellie moved to Lincolnshire when the war began, working in the family store.

Nellie never married and later in life she moved to Morpeth, where she lived with her nephew Norman and his wife Sheila at Low Espley Farm.

She was the last resident to leave Morpeth’s The Mount Care Home when it was closed by Northumberland County Council during a storm of controversy in 2006.
