THE removal of a stone wall at Morpeth’s new supermarket site has happened earlier than expected.
Contractor Tolent has written to residents in Staithes Lane to explain that it took the action yesterday on safety grounds. Barrier fencing has been put up.
Project Manager Paul Consterdine said: “The wall was going to be removed in April as part of the works, but we noticed that it was in a bad condition on the site side of the development so we decided to take it down.
“In our letter, we have apologised to residents for the short notice, but we didn’t want to take any chances with the wall.”
