MEMBERS of Morpeth Lions Club received a successful surprise to recognise their community efforts.
An unexpected visit came from Region Chairman Peter Fielding, who brought with him the Lions District 105NE Club of the Year Cup for 2009/10.
Morpeth is one of 47 Lions Clubs in its District – which includes the North East of England and all of Scotland.
Mr Fielding said: “This has been a year when Morpeth Lions received national and international recognition when it was presented with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
“In addition the club continues to serve the community in many ways, as it has done for the past 37 years.
“On behalf of the District Governor, I have great pleasure in presenting this cup as a measure of the high esteem in which you are held by your peers.”
In response, Morpeth Lions President Chris Offord said: “Thank you Peter for this totally unexpected honour.
“We are aware of so many local clubs who could rightly expect to be recognised in this way.
“In humbly accepting the ‘Club of the Year Cup’ you can be assured that this will provide us with even more encouragement to do our best for our community.”
