A COMMUNITY radio station will return to the airwaves this weekend.
Synergy, which is run by the South Northumberland Radio Group, will embark on a 28-day live broadcast on Saturday. It will be the second time the station has broadcast on 87.7FM following a successful run in 2012.
The latest offering will serve up a mix of music, interviews, community information and outside broadcasts, as well as summaries of local football matches.
Live programmes will run from 7am to at least 9pm, with automated music on-air the rest of the time.
Guests signed up to take part are Wansbeck MP Ian Lavery, author Barbara Henderson, Chairman of the Northumberland Business Network Charles Sellers and Chief Clinical Officer of the NHS Northumberland Clinical Commissioning Group Dr Alistair Blair.
There will also be representatives from charities, services and visitor attractions.
More than 60,000 leaflets have been distributed in south east Northumberland to promote the station.
Group Chairman Colin Heathcote said: “Our team of volunteers is very excited about the second 28-day broadcast. We hope to build on the success of our venture in 2012 when more than 90 studio guests talked, sang or played instruments.
“Our aim continues to be to provide a voice for the community to promote services, facilities and activities for the benefit of people living in the area, within an interesting and entertaining format.”
The radio group was formed in May 2008 and in the past five years volunteers have raised more than £35,000 to create a studio in Bedlington and apply for licences. Equipment and furniture has been donated.
