PICNICS are too tame for teddy bears in Cambo as they donned parachutes to leap from the church tower.
The parachute jump took place on Saturday as part of the Cambo Church Gift Day.
Various activities were organised by parishioners to help raise the profile of the church, including quizzes and a meditation corner.
Visitors could find out about the history of the church and browse through its ancient registers, and there was a special guest as former Wallington evacuee Heather Ramsay called in to have a look at the silver chalice that she and her friends had presented to the church in 1944 during their stay in the area. She also took along a photograph of her confirmation at the church.
Beautiful floral displays were on show and parishioners also presented a new altar front, which they are currently creating.
The Rev Dagmar Winter said: “This was the first time we have done anything like this. We wanted to raise our profile and our presence, particularly for people from the wider area, as well as the local community, and showcase the role the church plays.
“The weather was a little short of ideal, but the event certainly gave us some ideas and I’m sure we would like to repeat it.”
