A SCHEME which helps residents stay clear of rogue home improvement and repair traders has reached a milestone.
Fifty businesses have now signed up to the Northumberland and North Tyneside Trader Register, which began recruiting members last Autumn.
The news was celebrated at an event in Morpeth, attended by Northumberland County Council officers and councillors, staff from Northumberland and North Tyneside Trading Standards, Northumberland Care Trust, partner organisations and consumer and trader representatives.
Consumer Protection and Business Manager Jimmy Power explained that the register aims to increase consumer confidence by putting people in touch with reliable traders.
Those admitted to the scheme have undergone checks by Trading Standards relating to their complaints and credit history, insurance provision and compliance with consumer protection law.
In addition, they have declared compliance with a Code of Practice and are committed to providing a high degree of customer service.
Residents can obtain details of traders in their area by calling 0845 6006400 or visiting the website www.traderregister.org.uk/nnt and clicking on Find a Trader.
