UNPOPULAR Morpeth traffic lights are coming out.
The controversial signals at Telford Bridge will be removed in the autumn and a roundabout reinstated for a temporary six-month trial.
However, members of the Lights Out group, who have campaigned to have the signals removed, say they are confident that once out they will not return.
The news follows a presentation to stakeholders last week by consultant Phil Jones, who was commissioned to undertake a whole-scale review of Morpeth’s traffic network following public protests about the lights last year.
Founder Lights Out member David Clark said: “We are happy that things are going to change. We are looking forward to the traffic lights coming out and the roundabout coming back.
“It will be for six months initially, but I don’t think it is expected that once the lights come out they will ever go back in. The roundabout will be back.”
