Try sports for free

FREE sports sessions are being offered across Northumberland to tap into Olympic interest.

The Give It A Go programme will run through sports centres, clubs and societies, with funding by Northumberland County Council, to encourage people to get involved in sport.

Taster sessions take in a wide variety of sports, including archery, boccia, boxing, diving, fencing, football, equestrianism, kayaking, synchronised swimming and triathlon, and the scheme is open to all ages.

It will run for five weeks over the summer, coinciding with significant London 2012 events, with the first courses beginning on Monday to mark 100 days until the start of the Games.

County Council Executive Member for Leisure Neil Bradbury said: “I am sure we will all be in awe when we watch the world’s greatest athletes compete at the Games this summer.

“Many people think that sport isn’t for them. This programme gives them the chance to try out a wide variety of sports and discover whether there is an activity they really enjoy. What’s more, they can do it for free.”
