EARLY-bird youngsters are boxing clever to prepare for a village event.

Members of the Longhirst Junior Activities Club are making preparations in plenty of time for the village’s annual Open Gardens and Church Flower Festival, which will take place this summer.

This year’s theme is Village Life and the group has been making bird boxes for display to show how residents care for wildlife.

The Longhirst event on June 29 and 30 will see 11 local gardens opened to the public. There will also be a craft fair and refreshments in the Village Hall, the Flower Festival in St John’s Church and a range of other activities and attractions.
