A VITAL carers’ support service can continue for another three years after securing funding.

Carers Northumberland Information Service offers a single point of contact for the county’s 36,000 carers to access advice and guidance about a range of issues, including benefits, employment rights and assessments.

Now the Northern Rock Foundation has awarded funding to maintain the service until 2015.

Carers Northumberland Chief Executive Sandi Downing said: “We are delighted to receive this funding, which will help secure our ability to provide appropriate information directly to carers, who can otherwise find they have to ask the same question of several different agencies before getting the answers they need.”

The group has also welcomed new Information Officer Anne-Marie Johnstone to the team.

The information line is available Monday to Friday, from 10am to 2pm, and where possible is answered during office hours. It is also open on the first and third Tuesday evenings of each month.

It is available on 0844 800 7354.
