WORK: Disruption was minimised

Thankfully, the upheaval caused by the upgrade works in Dark Lane to the Morpeth sewer system is pretty much at an end.

Whilst no one can pretend that there was no disruption, the process was well managed by Northumbrian Water (NWL) and delays were kept to a minimum throughout the project.

The project, of course, was initially timetabled to start last October, in the run up to Christmas.

Had it done so, it would have been disastrous for the festive trade and events in the town.

Thankfully, following contact with NWL from the Morpeth Town Team, the Chamber of Trade and Sanderson Arcade, as well as Morpeth Town Council, NWL and the county council listened to what they were being told and deferred the project until January.

The result was a much better outcome for the town.

NWL provided weekly drop-in centres for the public to express their concerns directly, as well as a regularly updated website and regular newsletter throughout the project.

The lesson learned from all of this is that if we all work together for our town, then the results will be much more satisfactory.
