You should hear the Gospels, according to Richard
A RARE opportunity to hear the Christian Gospels in full is being offered at a Morpeth church.
Listen To This is the brainchild of vicar and author Richard Ferguson to help church-goers and others to discover the power and depth of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
Mr Ferguson, who was Area Dean of Morpeth from 1995 to 2004, said: “One of the things I feel is that a lot of people are getting increasingly distant from the Gospels, even people who come to church.
“What we need to do is hear the Gospels and hear them whole.
“Often on a Sunday morning, you just get a couple dozen paragraphs and don’t get the context so very often it is difficult to know where something comes from and find out what it means.
“This project is to hear the Gospels as a whole, rather than snippets.”
Mr Ferguson, whose book and CD Rocks and Breakers is a presentation on the Gospel according to St Mark, will begin the four-week series on Sunday with that Gospel.
Three other readers will present the others.
The readings will take place at the New Life Christian Centre in Dacre Street, at 4pm each week.
They are expected to take around two hours and refreshments will be available.
Following the Gospel of St Mark on Sunday, there will be a reading of St Matthew’s on October 21, St Luke’s on October 28 and St John’s on November 4.
