CANCER: Encouraging more screening

editorial image

I wanted to say a huge thank you to readers for their amazing support during Bowel Cancer Awareness Month in April.

At Bowel Cancer UK, the UK’s leading bowel cancer research charity, we’ve been overwhelmed by the help we’ve received in encouraging more people to take part in screening.

Bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in the UK. However, it shouldn’t be because it is treatable and curable, especially if diagnosed early. Bowel cancer screening can save lives, but at the moment in some areas only a third of those who receive a test complete it. Thousands of people are missing out on the chance to detect bowel cancer early.

I would also like to say a big thank you to the hundreds of people who signed up to our new fund-raiser, the fantastic celebrity chefs who supported the campaign, our amazing team of volunteers who gave awareness talks, and those who supported us on social media, including MPs, policy makers, hospitals, businesses and healthcare groups.

We cannot do this without you, but together we can stop bowel cancer in our lifetime.
