I AM becoming very concerned as are my fellow bus drivers that the zebra crossing on Stanley Terrace between Morrisons’ car park and Sanderson Arcade is an accident waiting to happen.
Groups of people stand talking next to the beacons. We have observed, while driving along the road, that it is only when you get about 10ft from the crossing they step onto the road, causing us to brake hard and possible injury to bus passengers.
Drivers can be delayed for up to two minutes in each direction at the zebra crossing because as soon as one pedestrian has crossed another steps onto the crossing.
This is the main route to the bus station and three town centre car parks. Surely a pelican crossing would be a fairer and safer crossing on such a busy road. Northumberland County Council needs to look at this before the busy Christmas shopping period and before a serious accident happens.
