PAY: Let’s hear our MPs’ opinions

A local MP has taken the opportunity to remind readers of the current Government’s plan to mandate what is being called the National Living Wage to reach £9 per hour by 2020 (Morpeth Herald, July 16).

I read elsewhere that public sector workers are to receive one per cent pay rises annually for the next four years.

It must be a great boon to those receiving the National Living Wage or in public sector employment to be able to plan ahead financially and to be sure of their future income level so far in advance.

I invite all our local MPs to follow the example of Prime Minister David Cameron and offer an opinion on the back-dated pay award to MPs by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority.

AS Brunt,

Longhorsley
