I received an email from Virgin Trains recently advertising its New Year seat sale on the East Coast line.
When I tried to book tickets I found that if you purchase tickets to travel from Morpeth you are not eligible for the bargain seats, even though the advert claims the tickets are available from the North East to London.
Even the small print states: “Promotional tickets are for travel on Virgin Trains East Coast services only, each way between London and Edinburgh, and stations in between”.
But not Morpeth it seems.
Virgin customer services were unable to explain why Morpeth has been excluded from the deal, but I suspect the business just plain forgot that its trains stop here, for the moment at least.
