UNION: Roger is a hard act to follow

Northumberland Credit Union is holding its AGM on February 22. Over the past year, membership has increased by 18 per cent and members’ savings have increased by 20 per cent. We have made 120 loans, totalling over £118,000, bringing the total loaned since 2005 to over £800,000.

Three of our board members are standing down at the AGM, including Roger Hawkins.

Roger, who is a Herald columnist and formerly Deputy Borough Treasurer at Castle Morpeth Council, was a founder member of the study group formed to set up the credit union in 1997. He has served on the board as Secretary and more recently as Compliance Officer. He has seen us through changes in financial regulatory structures more designed to deal with multi-national banks, and shown infinite patience and wit in dealing with bureaucracies. He’ll be a hard act to follow.

Membership of Northumberland Credit Union is open to anyone living or working in the county. Full information is available at www.ncul.co.uk
