I have been reading with interest your selections from the Morpeth Herald of 100 years ago, covering the Great War.
Imagine my delight and astonishment to read of Master Laurie Wilkinson of Bankfoot, Belsay, and his efforts on behalf of the National Egg Collection for wounded soldiers.
Laurie Wilkinson was my grandfather and would have been 13 years of age in 1915.
I am pleased to read that he was ‘doing his bit’ for the war effort.
