SIR, — The Morpeth Ladies' Lifeboat Guild held its annual book sale on Saturday, July 26, at the Morpeth Scout Headquarters.
There were three accounts of the lifeboat crews in action in the Press that day locally: rescuing children at Newbiggin, taking a boat in tow near Sunderland and plucking men from a life raft, their boat having sunk. These incidents clearly illustrate the need for the RNLI crews to be ready to respond to the 'shout'.

Our total sum raised was £1,067 which will all go to support these very special volunteers.

We would like to thank all those who so generously donated books, who assisted in setting up the stall and who helped on the day.
We are most grateful to our customers and to the Scouts for allowing us to use their HQ.

JANE O'DRISCOLL
