SIR, — It concerns many that a traditional feature of Morpeth's Spring events calendar, the Morpeth Gathering, faces a funding squeeze.

Given the uncertainty of the future spending priorities of the Northumberland unitary authority and the long-term future of the Town Hall, it all adds up to a difficult picture for supporters of the Gathering.

However, if you compare the level of investment needed to make the Gathering financially safe with the money visitors spend in Morpeth over the Gathering weekend, it becomes a sensible project for the Greater Morpeth Development Trust to seek funding for, compared to other projects it has declared an interest in seeking funding for.
