Morpeth on song for good cause
SIR, — Through the courtesy of your columns I wish to express grateful thanks to the many people who attended the Northern Voices concert in St James's Church and who contributed so generously to the two Newcastle Refugees support charities.
A total of £1,000 was raised for the Hardship Finds to help the many families and individuals with no source of income, yet who are not permitted to work or receive official benefits.
In giving a vote of thanks at the end of the concert, the Ven Peter Robinson, Archdeacon of Lindisfarne, who now lives in Morpeth and who has worked for several years for the refugees, gave a first-hand account of the desperate plight of many families with young children and the need for regular funds if the charities are to continue their vital work. No money raised is used for administration, every penny goes to support the destitute and homeless and funds are at present very low.
Anyone wishing to give donations, however small, or who can offer goods or clothes, please contact Joy Wright (01670 515990) of the Morpeth and Mitford Churches Together Asylum Seekers Support Group, or phone me for further information about the two charities on 01670 514149.
