SIR, — Those who are familiar with more challenging 'sleeping policemen' in other parts of the County (Blyth or Lynemouth, for example), will be somewhat surprised at how restrained the County Council highways people have been in their design of the road safety measures on Howard Road, Dacre Street and Copper Chare at Morpeth.
Limited sized obstacles like this rarely make drivers even think about their speed, certainly no more than roadside parking would do. We will have to wait and see if the problems which led to their introduction are affected by their presence.

On another subject, it is to be hoped that a certain piece of community art in the existing bus station at Morpeth will be given a more prominent location in the new development. And it is also to be hoped that someone will give the Lumsden's Lane artwork a clean before the redevelopment is finished.

It is a good idea that the developers are funding their own piece of artwork, but we should also protect our existing artwoork too.
