PONTELAND snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with a disappointing batting collapse.
They seemed well placed to reach their target of 158 when the score was 107-3, but their final seven wickets fell for just 30 runs as the home side ended up
losing by 20 runs.
Consett batted first and were soon dealt a blow when Newns was dismissed for a duck when he was caught by Common off the bowling of Appleby.
And Appleby was not finished there as he kept causing problems for the top order batsmen and was rewarded by removing the other opener, Waters, for 12
He then bowled number three Turnbull (19) and had next man in Breece (16) caught and bowled.
Common kept up the pressure by getting O'Sullivan caught for just nine runs, but Forster was playing himself in nicely to give some stability to the visitors' innings.
His knock of 55 proved crucial and he had support from Winn (12) and Dixon (17 not out).
Moffatt took the key wickets of Forster and Winn to curb the scoring and he also dismissed Chapman for 0.
And Gardener bowled Hopps for 12, which was the last wicket of the innings.
Consett ended on 157 for 9, with Appleby and Moffatt finishing with bowling figures of 4-50 and 3-52 respectively.
Ponteland opener Darwood was in great form and he regularly found the boundary with some excellent shots.
Despite the loss of Ealey for seven, Morgan came in and looked assured as the hosts built a solid platform.
But when Morgan was caught on 21 things began to go wrong, as Hammill quickly headed back to the dressing room after being out for just two runs.
Consett bowler Remmer got the key breakthrough by having Darwood caught for 66 and out of the middle order and tail, only Taylor (ten) achieved double figures.
Common finished on seven not out, but could do nothing as batsmen tumbled at the other end. Pont were bowled out for 137 in the 46th over, with Moffatt the last man out for a duck.
Remmer was the pick of the Consett bowlers with figures of 5-35. Hopps took three wickets and Breece got the other two.
