A PONTELAND teenager made the final of a major junior tennis event.
Ben Lott, 14, who plays at the Northumberland Tennis Academy, was the number four seed at the HSBC Road to Wimbledon tournament and he came through a group stage and won four knockout matches on his way to the final at the historic venue.
And this was after winning the regional qualifying event at the County Ground in Jesmond earlier this year.
But he was unable to win the top prize after a 1-6, 6-1, 2-6 defeat to third seed Scott Clayton from Jersey.
Ben (pictured) has had an excellent year and in July he won the U14 Scottish Junior Open title in Edinburgh.
Watching the final was Tim Henman, Britain's former Number One and World top ten player for many years, who presented the winner with the trophy.
He said: "Competitions like the Road to Wimbledon are a fantastic way to help nurture British tennis and it is great that HSBC are helping cultivate all this young talent."
