Cyclists on their bikes for road race

AN annual cycling event which travels through parts of Castle Morpeth will take place this Sunday.
The Ballantyne Memorial Trophy Road Race, organised by the Barnesbury Cycling Club, begins at 10.30am in Netherwitton.

The places it will travel through include Belsay, Cambo, Dyke Neuk, Hartburn, Mitford, Scot's Gap and Whalton and the total distance is approximately 51.5 miles.

Currently there are 52 entrants but people can sign up for the race on the day until 10.10am at Netherwitton Village Hall.

First prize is £50 and the Ballantyne Memorial Trophy to be held until next year's race, while there are also cash prizes for second to fifth placed riders, the King of the Mountains, first junior and the leader after the three Primes.

Barnesbury Cycling Club welcomes new members and those interested can talk to Christopher Gray (Secretary) on the day of the race or e-mail cngray@hotmail.co.uk.
