MORPETH Harrier Laura Weightman showed that she is now virtually back to her sparkling best as she knocked a whole three seconds off her personal best time in the 1500m at the first Start Fitness North Eastern Athletics League meeting held at a rainswept Monkton Stadium, Jarrow.
She certainly took every advantage when running as the only female against older men and boys, to cross the finish line in an excellent 4m23.4s.

Another good Morpeth performer on the night was Joe Robertshaw, who won the U13 Boys' 100m in 13.5s.

Other Morpeth performers on the night were: Katie Plant (16.0s) U15 Girls' 75m Hurdles and (14.5s) 100m; Daniel Hedley (18.1s) U17 Men's 150m and (39.7s) 300m; Claire Reid (10.54m) Senior Women's Shot and (16.75m) Hammer; Martyn Cairns (4m35.4s) U20 Men's 1500m; Deborah Oakley (5m49.1s) U17 Women's 1500m.

• Ben Harrison of Morpeth Harriers won Friday's Dalton-in-Furness Charter 10k in a time of 33m35s.

• Morpeth Harrier Lewis Timmins finished second in the Men's 5000m at the McDonnell Invitational Track and Field meeting at Fayetteville, Arkansas, America, on April 19. His time was 14m09.91s.

• A close and exciting finish saw Morpeth Harrier Jonathan Taylor, representing Teesside University, snatch victory in the Men's 1500m from Darlington's Lewis Moses representing Loughborough, at the BUSA Track and Field Championships at Bedford.
Taylor clocked 3m45.61s, a new personal best, with Moses also getting a new personal best of 3m45.72s.

• Morpeth's Craig McBurney finished 27th in the BUPA Great Edinburgh 10k on Sunday in a time of 37m18s. He is making a comeback to the sport after service in the Armed Forces in Basra.

• This Saturday and Sunday several Morpeth Harriers will be competing in the North Eastern Counties Track and Field Championships at Gateshead's International Stadium.
