VERSATILE 13-year-old Morpeth Harrier Steph Courty cast aside her disappointment of having to miss the Northumberland Minor Schools Track and Field Championships in favour of winning a Tetrathlon in Angus, Scotland at the weekend.
The Tetrathlon involved a shooting competition in which she finished sixth, a swimming event where she was fifth, a running contest where she was seventh — topped with a clear round on her horse in cross country riding.
These results gave her the overall individual title when competing against 54 rivals, and she led the North of England to third team place against teams from Northern Ireland, Southern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and other areas of England.
• Morpeth Harrier Nick Swinburn was more than a match for his rivals at the annual 10k Challenge held at the North of England Open Air Museum at Beamish on Sunday.
He won the event for the third time in a row in a time of 32m58s, which proved to be three minutes and 58 seconds faster than his closest rival Simon O'Donnell of Chester-le-Street.
Bangor University student Swinburn certainly retains an affection for the course which is several minutes away from his family home.
Swinburn also lowered the course record by a further 66 seconds into the bargain, which is a timely boost as he has now been selected to compete for England in the Snowdon International Mountain Race, to be held later this month.
