Cleckheaton 45 Morpeth 0 North One East

Morpeth face an uphill task to stay in the division after a heavy defeat at league leaders Cleckheaton.

There was a confidence and slickness to the hosts’ play, with excellent handling and speed of re-organisation that was just too much for the away side to handle.

Tries from Dawson and Wilson put the home side in a strong position and further scores by Woodhead and Hayden increased the lead to over 20 points.

Morpeth started the second half with their strongest period of play, but were disheartened when Akroyd plucked a pass out of the air along the visitors’ back-line and sprinted 20 metres before supplying Hayden with a simple try. Piper then touched down and Hayden completed his hat-trick before the end.

With all three tries in the second half converted, the final score was 45-0.
