WESTOE 5-30 MORPETH

Morpeth made the short journey south of the water to take on a Westoe side that has struggled this season and face certain relegation, as we move into the final games.

Morpeth meanwhile continued their impressive form with what proved to be a comfortable win.

Morpeth had the elements in their favour and kicked off with the benefit of a not insignificant slope, but struggled to play their normal fluent game as the play became littered with penalties without any real flow.

Fly half Phillips benefitted after 10 minutes with a well struck penalty from in front of the posts, but was wide with another effort five minutes later.

It took Morpeth another 30 minutes before they were able to put some fluidity in attack. An attacking line out led to a forceful Tim Michie run which saw Turner dive over in the corner - 8-0 to the visitors.

A further scoring chance was spurned on half time when unusually the ever reliable Simon Michie knocked on with Turner looking odds on to score on his outside. The half time score remained 0-8..

The second half saw Morpeth produce some open play, which punctuated what ultimately became a bad tempered affair, as the home side, who played with a great deal of spirit throughout, allowed their ill discipline and frustration come to the fore with two sin binnings.

Yet through this Morpeth came through ,firstly Calder, who stood out throughout and is one of many players who has made significant strides this season ,made a forceful and

elusive run from an attacking line out to score.Tim Michie, who made good yards throughout, crashed over from a quickly taken Hill penalty, making the score 20-0. Westoe to their credit came back with a try of their own before Morpeth put the seal on their bonus point victory with further scores.

Firstly, the ever reliable and unsung Moody made in roads with Shippen, before Tait neatly beat his man to score. Then on the final whistle Turner scored wide out after some good handling.

Another cracking win,in a really good season which has brought a great deal of entertainment and enjoyment for those who have very fortunate to watch the team’s continued development.
