Decent result for Pont

PONTELAND RFC’s sevens side put on a good show at a county tournament in Seghill.

They reached the final of the main competition (Cup), although they were defeated in that game by a strong Westoe team.

Pont gave a signal of intent when they won their opening pool match 41-0 against Blyth. They then beat North Shields 26-12 before losing to Tynedale 32-12.

In the semi-finals, they played some great rugby to record a 31-14 victory against Novos.

Ponteland competed well in the final, but they found the going tough and lost to Westoe by 24 points to five.

Following the tournament, five Pont players were selected for the 2014 Northumberland squad.

Pete Maclennan, Pete Maughan, Phil McAreavey, Pete Newbigin and Chris Searle will be part of the county teams competing in a number of events across the country.
