MORPETH Rugby Club’s annual players’ dinner and presentations were well supported by players, members and visitors.

There was also a table for county referees, which included international referee Dave Pearson, recently returned from officiating in the World Cup in New Zealand.

The entertaining guest speaker was Brian Campsall, former England international referee and RFU Elite Referee Development Manager.

Sam Duckworth, the club’s sponsorship and travel organiser, was given a standing ovation when he was presented with the trophy for services to club both on and off the field.

John Stafford did an excellent job of arranging the event and, at the last minute, stepped in as MC for the evening.

The other awards were as follows – Colts Player of the Year: Adam Greave; Stags Player of the Year: Steve Rank; Edwardians Player of the Year: Duncan Oliver; Reivers Player of the Year: James Defty; Young Player of the Year: Ben Bell; Ladies Player of the Year: Diane Purvis; Most Improved Ladies Player of the Year: Rachael Parkinson; First Team Player of the Year: Aaron Charlton; Club Top Try Scorer: Alan Fleming; First Team Ties: Karl Campbell and James Armstrong.
