A TALENTED young Morpeth rugby player has crowned an outstanding season by scooping a top award at Morpeth Rugby Club’s Junior Section end-of-season presentations.

Sam Eyres won the coveted Player of the Year award for his success playing at fly-half for the U14s team, which recently rounded off a stunning season by winning the Northumberland RFC Plate Final.

The 13-year-old’s achievement came after his coaches gave him top marks for his high standard of play, all-round commitment to the team and training and generally positive attitude.

He was joined on the U14s winners’ podium by Nathan Howey and Sam Fieldson, who picked up the Most Improved and Best Attitude awards respectively.
