Another great win for Town

Jarrow Roofing BCA 1 Morpeth Town 3 Northern League, Division One

Morpeth continued their excellent start to the season with an away-day victory on Saturday.

Having absorbed a period of Jarrow pressure, on the half-hour Town broke forward on the right and won a free-kick just inside the home half.

Captain Christopher Jewels cut Marc Lancaster’s dead-ball back into the path of the division’s leading scorer, Michael Chilton, who was clinical from five yards out.

Seconds from half-time, Steven Anderson slid the ball into the path of Sean Taylor, whose composed finish made it 2-0 to Morpeth.

Daniel Kirkup pulled one back for the Roofers when he netted from close range on the hour, but the Highway Men were not to be denied the victory that would move them up the table.

Goalkeeper Karl Dryden played the ball forward to Anderson. He outmuscled the Jarrow defence before smashing home an unstoppable shot from the edge of the penalty box to seal all three points.

Morpeth controlled the first half, although resolute defending by the visitors’ defence kept the game scoreless at the interval.

But the dominance bore fruit early in the second half when Taylor broke down the right wing and crossed to Anderson, who opened the scoring on 50 minutes.

A minute later, Taylor was again the provider when his incisive through-ball found Hall, who placed the ball past the despairing dive of Graham in the Crook goal to make it 2-0.

Anderson completed the scoring with ten minutes remaining when he controlled a Chilton flick-on and finished well.
