MORPETH Town AFC are hoping to go one better and secure promotion in the 2012/13 campaign.

Confidence is high after last season’s fourth place finish and all of the 2011/12 squad have re-signed for the coming season.

Pre-season training has begun and the first of their friendly fixtures is at home to Ashington tomorrow night (Friday) – kick-off 7pm.

They will travel to Gosforth Bohemians on Tuesday and to Scotland to take on Stranraer, who made the Third Division Scottish League play off final last season, on Saturday, July 21.

Town are away to Newcastle Benfield on Tuesday, July 24. On Saturday, July 28, Morpeth travel to Ebac Northern League Division One newcomers Durham City and they are then home to Bedlington Terriers on Wednesday, August 1.

In preparation for the first competitive game of the season on August 11, they will be travelling up to Scotland again to take on Stirling Albion at the Scottish Institute of Sport at Stirling University.

• Next season, Morpeth Town will be entering a team in the first division of the Northern Alliance.

Ken Dougan, who has a wealth of experience as a youth team coach and who last season managed Blyth Town Reserves, has been appointed as manager. He is looking to develop a squad of young players who will be able to push for inclusion in the first team squad.

Those interested in joining the team can find out more by calling Ken on 01670 828800 or 07889 502361.

• Tickets for the comedy evening featuring Mike Cash – The Ultimate Comedy Entertainer – on Saturday are selling well and there are only a few tickets available.

Tables of 10 are £120 or it’s £15 for a single ticket. To book, please contact Jim Dawson on 078511 87143 or email jim021260@hotmail.co.uk

• Morpeth Town’s Craik Park is hosting Football in the Community sessions in association with Funball United.

The summer holiday skills training for seven to 13-year-olds will be carried out by UEFA B Licensed coaches and a qualified goalkeeping coach will be available if there is sufficient demand. They are all CRB checked and have first aid and child protection certificates.

The sessions will take place on Wednesday, August 1 to Friday, August 3, between Wednesday, August 8 and Friday, August 10, and from Wednesday, August 15, to Friday, August 17 – between 10am and 3pm on each day.

The cost is £30 per child. To book a place or for further details, contact David McMeekan – Morpeth Town Secretary – by 074251 35301 or email drmcmeekan@yahoo.co.uk
