Friendly game useful despite the scoreline

MORPETH Town had a useful workout on Saturday against players from a Scottish Premier League outfit’s squad.

Although St Johnstone won by five goals to one, the match was good preparation for the forthcoming season.

Following a few more pre-season fixtures, the Highway Men travel to Marske United to commence their Ebac Northern League Division One season on Saturday, August 10.

Their opening home match of the season is against Penrith on Wednesday, August 14, and Billingham Synthonia are the opposition for Town’s first home league game on Saturday, August 24.

The early rounds of the FA Cup have now been decided. Liversedge of the North East Counties League visit Craik Park on Saturday, August 17, with the winners travelling to either Durham City or Hall Road Rangers on Saturday, August 31.

The winners of that tie will be away to either Glasshoughton Welfare or Jarrow Roofing or Dunston UTS or Pickering Town in the competition’s First Qualifying Round on Saturday, September 14.

In the FA Vase, Morpeth Town have a bye in the First Qualifying Round and are away to Washington in the Second Qualifying Round on Saturday, September 21.
