GIRLS’ football is taking off in Morpeth thanks to a partnership between the Newcastle United Foundation and Northumberland FA.

They organised a series of fun days across the county this summer, including a session at Morpeth Sporting Club FC.

And it was so popular that the club has recruited 10 new players to enhance its girls section.

Alan Newton, team manager of Morpeth Sporting’s Under 13 Girls team, said: “We started our first girls team last year and had a successful first season.

“But we wanted to expand and thanks to the fun day we now have established under-12 and under-13 teams.”
