MORPETH Leopards put in an excellent team performance to gain a convincing victory against Blyth.

They got off to the best possible start with a goal from a brilliant free-kick by Josh within the first five minutes.

Goal number two came just two minutes later, with Josh putting the ball through and Joe T placing it in the corner of the net.

Josh and Joe made a couple of good runs and Daniel showed some excellent skills in midfield. Jack and Josh made some good clearances from their two corners to keep the score to 2-0.

The next quarter started with Josh hitting the post and taking an excellent corner. Daniel again was great and Karun made some good crosses.

Morpeth’s third goal came from another strike by Josh which was saved by Blyth keeper, but Joe T was there to get the ball in the net on the rebound.

Josh and Louie both had shots which were saved by the visiting keeper, so it remained 3-0 at the end of the second quarter.

Blyth came out much stronger and scored early in the third quarter. They had a lot of play in this quarter, but a good run from Louie, clearances from Jack and Caelan and a save by Joe L kept them from scoring again.

There was a goalmouth scramble to defend well, but Joseph finally got it up to Louie, whose shot was easily saved by the Blyth keeper.

The final quarter brought another brilliant goal from Josh, who hit the top corner of the net from a set-piece. The score was kept to 4-1 by a decent save from Joe L, a good tackle from Jack, and excellent pressing by the whole team.

Josh was chosen as the team’s man-of-the-match by the opposing manager.

l Morpeth Sporting Club is looking to strengthen the committee as well as its coaching provision, so volunteers are being sought to work either behind the scenes or on the pitch with the players.

The club, which was formed a few years ago through a merger of Morpeth Town Juniors and FC Morpeth Juniors, now has more than 300 footballers playing for teams at a range of age levels. Teams also go on tours to other parts of the UK and abroad.
