Guisborough Town 2 Morpeth Town 2 Northern League, Division One

There was late drama as Morpeth got an away point on Teesside at the weekend.

With both goalkeepers in fine form, an entertaining first half ended goalless.

Play in the second half was end-to-end with chances aplenty and it was Guisborough that finally broke the deadlock on 75 minutes.

Karl Dryden in the Morpeth goal pulled off another fine save, but Martin was on hand to score at the far post.

The visitors regained their composure and after a flowing move from the back, Stephen Forster beat his man on the left and bent the ball with the outside of his right foot into the top corner to equalise.

Three minutes later, overlapping full back Marc Lancaster found Sean Taylor in space on the left. He drove into box and his delicate chip found the back of the net to put The Highway Men 2-1 up.

In the final stages, the home side were committed to attack and with two minutes remaining Earl scored from close range to make the final score 2-2.

Morpeth Town line-up: Dryden, Henderson, Lancaster, Grant, Buchanan, Jewels, Taylor, Fenwick, Waugh (Taggart), Forster (Buzzeo), Anderson (Keenan). Techflow Group Qatar man-of-the-match: Sean Taylor.

A week last Wednesday, Morpeth lost 3-2 at home to Consett.

Slocombe gave the away side an early lead but Town were level after 20 minutes when Forster’s pin-point cross to the far post was headed home by Taylor.

Steven Anderson then forced his way down the left before cutting the ball back to Taylor, whose fierce drive found the bottom corner of the net to put the Highway Men 2-1 up.

However, Consett levelled just before half time when Smith’s free kick found the net via a fortuitous deflection off the wall and they grabbed a winner through striker Guerin-Lokonga.

Morpeth are at home to Celtic Nation on Saturday. Kick-off at Craik Park is 3pm.
