Madrid’s derby triumph

Morpeth SC FC U14 0 Morpeth SC Madrid U14 4

BOTH Morpeth U14 sides clashed for the third time this season with honours even going into this NABC league game.

Madrid won the toss and changed ends to utilise the conditions to their advantage. Both sides started at a frantic pace.

But with little threatening either goal, Madrid settled first and started to play some good football with Hodge and Robertson taking control of midfield. The deadlock was broken when a good ball from Scott saw Barry go between two defenders to slip the ball past the advancing Parkin in goal.

FC attempted to come straight back but the back four of Campbell, Gascoigne, Riley and Thompson were resolute.

Madrid doubled their advantage following a good run by Barry, who crossed for Smith to make it 0-2 with a deft finish.

FC were using the wings to try to get past the Madrid defence but if they got past Thomson and Campbell, they were met with Gascoigne and Riley who were determined to prevent any threat to Brown in the Madrid goal.

Madrid were totally in charge, with Clapperton and Scott linking with Robertson and Hodge in midfield to create several good chances for the Madrid strikers.

The second half immediately saw Madrid put the game beyond doubt when Vendiletti put through Barry, whose curling shot beat Parkin at the back-post.

FC tried to come back into the game but were limited to long-range efforts, which Brown handled well.

A quick Madrid break saw Smith fire home to make it 0-4 and end any lingering hope of an FC come-back.

Madrid played out the remaining time and came away with the win and the points in what was a very good derby game.

Madrid squad: Brown, Campbell, Riley, Gascoigne, Thompson, Robertson, Hodge, Scott, Clapperton, Barry, Smith, Vendiletti, Tachiguchi.
