Tynemouth Utd U14 Blues 0 Morpeth SC Madrid U14 8
MORPETH visited Tynemouth in this Colts county cup game. Despite being in a lower league Tynemouth were undefeated in that division and had hopes of causing an upset.
Following the minute’s silence for remembrance of our fallen, the game began with Morpeth taking the game to their hosts.
First opportunity fell to Smith who was played in by Hodge only for the keeper to save. This was only a short reprieve as Morpeth scored twice in quick succession. The first a good ball from Robertson saw Smith fire past the keeper and then Brown crossed for Smith again to fire home 0-2.
Scott played some nice one touch football with Thompson before crossing for Smith to score his hat trick.
Morpeth were rampant at this stage and were pushing forward. The back four were always in control and the Tynemouth forward who was fast, did on occasion manage to get past Campbell only to be met with a brick wall in the form of Gascoigne and Riley who were not in a benevolent mood.
Another foray by Brown saw him gain a corner and Gascoigne’s kick was perfect for Smith to head in from close range. 0-4.
Clapperton came on for Brown and Tachiguchi for Hodge and following some nice passing Tynemouth conceded another corner.
Again Gascoigne’s kick was good but Tynemouth managed to scramble Smiths downward header off the line. Rhodes then freed Smith only to see his shot cannon off the bar and cleared.
Riley took a knock and was replaced by Haywood who stepped up to the role well. Wilson had good vision and sent a great ball into the box and Smith again beat the keeper from close range 0-5.
With the half coming to a close Scott won another corner and Gascoigne again put the ball on Smiths head to give the keeper no chance 0-6.
The second half was more even with Tynemouth having a real go and Morpeth changing players to give all the squad a decent run out.
Tynemouth were unlucky not to get a consolation goal when they broke only for Geddes to force the striker wide and his shot went high over the bar.
Morpeth continued to press and Smith broke and crossed for Tachiguchi to score from close range. Both Smith and Gascoigne had free kicks saved before Vendiletti scored following a cross from Smith. 0-8.
A good clean game came to a close with Morpeth progressing to the last 16 and Tynemouth having played well returning to hopefully league promotion.
