MORPETH moved up to fourth in the table with a Boxing Day derby victory at Alnwick.

Looking to extend their unbeaten run to seven games, the visitors started the game in a positive fashion.

They were dominant at the back and largely in control of the midfield, but their attacking play was often thwarted by the strong crosswind.

The breakthrough eventually came on 40 minutes when, after a succession of corners, a diagonal ball into the box caused panic in the home defence and under pressure from Johnstone, Patterson hooked the ball into his own net.

Midway through the second half, man-of-the match Keenan broke free on the right and his pin-point cross was converted by the on-rushing McAlpine.

In the final minute, substitute Dormand ran onto a Grant throughball, rounded the goalkeeper and stroked the ball into the net to make the final score 3-0.

Morpeth will play Washington at home on Monday, January 2. Kick-off at Craik Park is 3pm.
