Morpeth Sporting Club’s U12 girls’ team won the NGFL Shield Cup with a 3-1 victory against Cramlington United after extra-time in the final.
After dominating play throughout the first and second half, Morpeth were trailing 1-0 with 30 seconds to go in normal time.
However, they battled to the very last minute and were rewarded with a spectacular goal scored by Dominque Gosling, volleying into the corner from the edge of the box.
Morpeth were relentless in extra-time as they searched for the winner. Eventually, Ciara Callaghan smashed a volley from outside the area into the top corner to give them a deserved lead.
With only five minutes left, Carla Barker made sure of the win with a sublime finish from just inside the area.
All the girls played extremely well and were deserved winners. The squad was as follows: Carla Barker, Lilly Eudell, Jade Clapperton, Emma Young, Caitlin Love, Dominque Gosling, Emily Pattison, Izzy McCormack, Ciara Callaghan, Sarah Bambrick, Katie Dandy, Lucy Coulson.
Morpeth U12 girls will be training at Chantry Middle School on Thursday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Any girl from current Year 6 or 7 is welcome to come along.
The team will need more players next season as the matches will be nine-a-side.
