MORPETH Town surrendered a two-goal lead as they were held to a 3-3 home draw against Northumberland rivals Alnwick Town today.

The hosts had led 2-0 at half-time and had also gone 3-1 up in the second half in the Bank Holiday Monday clash.

But the Craik Park side were pegged back, and a 89th minute goal from Alnwick’s Ben Keenan ensured that the derby-day spoils were shared.

Ashley McAlpine, who bagged two - including a stunning first-half free-kick - and David Dormand were the Morpeth scorers.

But Scott McMullen scored from distance to bring Alnwick back into the game, trailing 2-1, before Tom Vickers and Keenan struck to level the scores.

It was a bitter pill for Morpeth to swallow, as they looked to build on their first league win of the season following a 2-1 win at North Shields on Friday night, and were in the driving seat to beat an Alnwick side who had lost 5-0 to Hebburn Town on Saturday.
