No rest for promoted Town team

Morpeth Town AFC

THE Highway Men will look back on a succesful 2012/13 season next week, but the reminiscing will soon be replaced by a busy pre-season schedule.

Morpeth Town’s club presentation night takes place on Saturday, June 29, at 7pm when the team will celebrate their promotion to the Ebac Northern League, Division One.

But next month, the friendlies come thick and fast as the squad looks to get in shape ahead of their first season back with the big boys in Division One.

They don’t have far to travel to kick things off with a match at Seaton Delaval on Tuesday, July 16, before they welcome St Johnstone to Craik Park on Saturday, July 20.

Two days later, they travel to Birtley Town for a game against the Northern League, Division Two side.

On Saturday, July 27, Town are away again, this time taking on Northern League new boys Heaton Stannington.

Morpeth host Blyth Spartans on Tuesday, July 30, before their final warm-up game at Seaham Red Star on Tuesday, August 6.

The Highway Men’s league campaign gets underway on Saturday, August 10, at 3pm, at Marske United.

Town managed to win promotion to Division One with a final-day-of-the-season 4-1 win at Brandon United. A draw for rivals Jarrow Roofing against Seaham meant that Morpeth had a superior goal difference.
