Marc Shiel hit a devastating 14-minute second-half hat-trick as Carlisle City took their winning run to nine games and gave them the runners-up spot in the Premier Division.

Dan Gawith’s opener for the Sky Blues was cancelled out by Dan Thompson but City went nap after that with Shiel claiming his treble, including one from the penalty spot, and Martin Shepherd completing the scoring late on.

Shankhouse led twice at Red House Farm but had to settle for a point as Michael Steinmetz hit a last-gasp leveller.

Noel Hanlon, Chris Rue and Adam Bamborough were on target for Hoose with Marty Soulsby and Michael Strachan netting the other Red House goals.

Division One Champions North Shields Athletic got in party mood with goals from Scott Jasper, Sean Millington, Lee Crammond and John Wyres against Birtley St Josephs, who replied twice through James Bowman, but the promotion celebrations at Gateshead Redheugh went a bit flat as they went down 4-1 at Cullercoats, whose scorers were Hylton Hub (2), Dean Clay and an own goal. Robbie Frame pulled one back.

And their was heartache for Newcastle Chemfica who finished fourth as goals from Jay Lomana and Steve McLaughlin were cancelled out by Ponteland United’s Paul Jones and Liam Anderson.

Blyth Isabella snatched the Second Division title from AFC Newbiggin on a dramatic final day.

The Seasiders needed a win against Wallsend Boys Club to add the League silverware to the Northumberland FA Minor Cup – but Nicky Whitelaw broke their hearts with a first-half double.

Michael Meins bagged a brace, including a penalty, and Dan Carr got the other as Isabella beat Seaton Burn to spark the celebrations. Matthew Middleton pulled one back.

Gateshead Leam Rangers were beating Grainger Park 5-1 but west End striker Liam Anderson scored four times with Dwayne Murray and Tony Spearman getting the other in an amzing turnaround.

Grant Pressling and Liam Roberts put Whitburn Athletic in charge at Wideopen and although Dan Cartwright pulled one back late on, an own goal completed the scoring for the visitors.

Alnwick Town Reserves will try and play West Allotment Celtic A again on Monday night as their game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
