First Qualifying Round

MORPETH bowed out of the FA Cup on Saturday against the team they pipped to promotion on goal difference last season.

In a tight first half where both defences were in control, the only clear-cut chance fell to Taylor.

Running onto an Anderson through-ball, he expertly rounded home goalkeeper Regan, but was denied by a last-gasp challenge when in the process of shooting.

Disaster struck on 70 minutes when centre-back Dunn went down injured in his own box. Playing the home forwards onside, the Highway Men were caught out by a long through-ball and Nicholson rounded Mundy to score the only goal of the game.

Town had chances to equalise, even with ten men as they had used all their substitutes, but they could not find the net.
