A STRONG crowd turned out to support a charity football tournament at Morpeth Rugby Club.

Heighley Gate Nursery & Garden Centre organised the event to raise funds for the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

Four teams took part in the seven-a-side competition. They were made up of past and present employees from the business and their friends and families.

Each member of the team paid £5 to enter and whilst admission to the tournament was free, there was a collection bucket for donations.

Sarah Tait, Events Co-ordinator at Heighley Gate Nursery & Garden Centre, said: “This was the third year running that we have hosted the football tournament and it was a great success. We are still counting the money raised.

“Chantry Middle School & Technology College kindly donated the goals and equipment free of charge and I would like to thank the school for its support.

“I would also like to thank Morpeth Rugby Club for letting us use its grounds free of charge for the charity event.

“Without this, the football tournament would not have been possible.

“After the event, we hosted a BBQ and the musical entertainment for visitors was provided by cover band Paul and Rich.”
